To maintain records of the folk musical heritage distributed throughout Nepal and to make efforts for its development.
To conduct and facilitate studies and research on indigenous Nepali folk music.
To prepare and maintain a list of active talents and organizations working in the field of folk music across the country.
To represent, or ensure representation, in international activities related to folk music.
To establish and expand contacts, coordination, and collaboration with local, national, and international talents and organizations related to folk music.
To preserve the folk musical heritage of Nepal.
To encourage the preservation of folk musical heritage specific to particular ethnic groups, communities, and regions.
To organize workshops, seminars, training programs, and competitions for the development of Nepali folk music.
To recognize and honor talents and related organizations contributing to the development of Nepali folk music.
To coordinate with other departments and undertake joint activities to the extent possible.
To form and operate committees related to indigenous, ethnic, Madhesi, and Dalit communities for the promotion of folk music.
